Demand Flexibility Service
Tracking the GB Demand Flexibility Service since January 2023
The Demand Flexibility Service (DFS) is run by the National Energy System Operator (NESO) to pay electricity consumers and generators to adjust their demand during periods of system stress or surplus. In winter, “Turn Down” events ask participants to reduce consumption during evening peaks. From 2026, “Turn Up” events pay participants to increase consumption when renewable output exceeds demand. This dashboard shows every DFS event since the scheme launched in January 2023 — including bid-level data showing who bid, at what price, and whether they were accepted or rejected.
